Two works of art by marine sculptress Roz Bulmer (aka Ninx) have been stolen from The Biscuit Factory gallery in Newcastle.

One of the sculptures is of an International Dragon set on green Italian marble and the other is of an International Dragon sailing through a bronze sea set on mahogany. It is a real blow to the artist and the gallery. When interviewed Bulmer said: “I’m torn between fury and flattery; it is no mean feat to steal a bronze sculpture set on marble! I suppose it shows the thief to have good taste and that my work is desirable.” The thief could have been stealing to order as only one other print artist had work stolen in the robbery.

Bulmer’s sculptures are unique. The slightly stylised designs are exactly to scale and the hull dimensions and sail plans are taken from the builders’ measurement diagrams. The majority of her work is produced for private commission yacht portraits or as trophies and she has previously exhibited at The Mall Gallery, London. Each of the sculptures has a very distinctive engraved symbol featuring Bulmer’s initials ‘RB’ in a circle, positioned where you would normally find a sailmaker’s badge.
