Adrian Flanagan on his solo westabout global challenge record attempt has crossed the Equator.

Flanagan left Falmouth on 9 November and finally crossed the Equator on Saturday 17 December. Chatting from the boat Flanagan said: “I crossed the Equator at precisely 1014 UCT (GMT) on Saturday. My offering to the gods was modest, seeing as it was breakfast time, 0814 at my location, bread and a box of chocolate filled squares!

“The weather turned overcast and I counted eight mini-squalls. I’m getting pretty good at dodging them, but a big one ahead was going to get me. I decided to take a deck shower. As the rain came, I lathered up. As the wind increased I had to shorten sail mid-shower. Needless to say, by the time I was done, the rain had passed, leaving me still full of suds! A quick swim on a line at the stern, then time to hoist the sails again and we’re off.”
