HM Queen Elizabeth II Opens Grand Harbour Marina, Malta
Under beautiful skies and with a large audience of yachtsmen and local dignitaries, HM Queen Elizabeth formally opened Grand Harbour Marina, Malta, which includes many berths for superyachts up to 100 metres.
This superyacht marina is the Mediterranean’s newest, developed in association with Camper & Nicholsons Marinas and represents the highest quality of marina design, construction and services. The unique setting right in the heart of the old harbour offers a special character to the facility, making it an ideal base for the world’s superyacht owners.
The Queen, accompanied by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and The Hon. Lawrence Gonzi, Prime Minister of Malta, were welcomed to the marina by Nick Maris, Chairman of both Camper & Nicholsons Marinas Ltd and Grand Harbour Marina Ltd.
Nick Maris said: “we are honoured that Her Majesty the Queen has today opened Grand Harbour Marina, which confirms it as one of the most prestigious and important Mediterranean marinas.”
Prestigious names in world yachting have already reserved berths, including Tom Perkins, whose new 87 metre superyachtMaltese Falconis now nearing completion.
The natural deep-water harbour, sparkling waters around the coastline and mild climate offer perfect local sailing waters. Malta’s strategic position in the centre of the Mediterranean offers many new and exciting possibilities for yachting, with a typical two-day cruising time from the South of France, Italy, Balearics, Croatia, Turkey and Greek Islands.
