A total of 105 29ers from 11 countries took part in four events across Europe this summer. It all started in Italy at Lake Garda over the Easter holiday where a fog bound lake brought disappointment to many and only five races.
The fleet then moved on to Germany where it appeared for the first time at Kiel Week. The biggest dinghy regatta in the world went down well with the 29ers even if the wind once again didn’t always play the game. However 10 races were held on the inshore course which was more than any of the other fleets managed.
It was then up to Denmark in August to Valensbrek and the European championship. In contrast to the previous rounds the fleet was treated to four days of 20 knots.
The final round was in Great Britain at Hayling Island on the first weekend in October which gave the fleet some big winds – so big that it was not possible to sail for the first day. The final day brought a good breeze and with it some classic 29er racing.
The 29ers look forward to 2006 with events planned in Spain, Germany, Sweden and Great Britain. And, of course the World Championship at Weymouth – Great Britain.
