Light airs for National 12 Gill series event at Starcross YC
After a short postponement on Saturday, a slight breeze finally filled in and the fleet took to the water for the first race of the National 12 Gill series open meeting at Starcross YC.
Race 1 saw Gavin and Jasmine Willis round the windward mark first, however it was Geoff Camm and Amelia Hall who led at the finish. In the Admiral’s Cup Richard and James King had an excellent race and led the old boats home.
For race 2 Geoff Camm and Amelia Hall proved their sniddling credentials by winning again, while places changed as the fleet made an agonising last run against the tide. David Wilkins and Sue Sallis took second with Ian and Alex Gore in third.
On Sunday the breeze picked up to provide some exciting reaches. The Gores were able to get ahead and kept a good lead for the remainder of the race with Chris Bishop/Pip Jefferies in second place.
Race 4 again saw the Gores at the top with Bishop and Jefferies keeping ahead of Camm and Ballantyne.
At the start of the final race, Nigel and Hannah May, and Crispin Taylor sailing with Richard Higston managed to both port tack the fleet. Tim Laws and Sam Game used their local knowledge to draw out a substantial lead which they held to the finish.
