What a sad sight: this is Isabelle Joschke, who triumphantly won the first leg of the Mini Transat, as seen from one of the support boats yesterday. She called up when the pivot of her bowsprit broke and her attempts to repair it failed.

There seems to be some doubt now as to whether she will continue racing. Without a repair she will be cruising all the way to Brazil. How demoralising.
