Help the John Merricks Sailing Trust celebrate 10 years with a party and a round of golf 27/9/07
The John Merricks Sailing Trust was set up 10 years ago in order to help young sailors and sailing organisations achieve their goals; advance the education and development of young people in need; while at the same time keeping alive the memory of a remarkable young man.
1996 Olympic silver medallist John Merricks died tragically in a car accident whilst competing in the 1997 Melges 24 European Championships in Italy. It was not long before his family and close friends decided to set up a charitable trust – in John’s name – to help others realise that same potential. Ten years later and the John Merricks Sailing Trust has awarded over £137,000 through 81 grants.
To celebrate, the charity is hosting a party on Friday 12 October at the Royal Southern Yacht Club. The evening will include a buffet dinner, live bands, casino tables, and a blow-boat competition! All proceeds from the event will go straight to the Trust, and it promises to be a great night for all involved.
There is also the 11th North Sails Golf Day to look forward to on Friday 26 October at Cams Hall Golf Club in Fareham. The event includes 18 holes of golf, a buffet lunch, a raffle, auction and prize giving. Teams of four are being formed to compete against old favourites and budding golf pros from companies such as Henri-Lloyd, Skandia and of course North Sails. (Entry forms are available here .)
