This was the Year of the Crocs. Have you noticed how these multi-coloured rubberised clogs have stampeded through the world of sailing? Everyone’s galumphing around in them.

The world seems to divide into people who consider them the world’s greatest podiatric invention and the rest of us, who think they’re hideous but are faintly feeling the peer pressure. Like the Space Hopper, the Raleigh Chopper and Clark’s Nature Trek shoes, you don’t have to like them to want some.

They have been so successful that there is soon to be line of Crocs clothing. That is promising. It’s interesting enough now, but I can’t wait to see the funny walks when people are dressed head to toe in perforated rubber.
