Hundreds turn out for gala premiere of Alex Thomson dramatic Southern Ocean rescue 11/9/07
Last night’s gala premiere of Alex Thomson’s dramatic rescue from his Open 60 Hugo Boss during the Velux 5 Oceans last year was a huge success.
Hundreds of guests including ‘film stars’ Alex Thomson and Mike Golding turned out at the glitzy Leicester Square Vue West End venue to watch the 50-minute documentary which is part of Nissan Adventure Film Festival which will run throughout the week.
This gripping APP Broadcast Production film tells a story of how race rivals Thomson and Golding find themselves in a bizarre rescue/rescuer near death situation in the middle of the Southern Ocean during last year’s Velux 5-Oceans Race. Thomson lost his keel and Golding, the only rescue option available, had to turn back and carry out the rescue. An interesting twist which shows how the most bitter rivals end up the greatest of friends [don’t forget your hanky!].
Although this film was previously shown on Channel 4 it’s now on silver screen at more than 80 Vue cinemas throughout the UK this coming Thursday (13 September) including the Vue in Gunwharf Quay, Portsmouth.
