Testing winds and rare breaks of sunshine greeted the Hunter 707 competitors on the second day of racing at the National Championships taking place at Burnham. (see previous story here).

The previous afternoon’s light and inconsistent winds that had frustrated most of the fleet had failed to increase in strength by the start of race four on Thursday morning, meaning competitors had to once again rely on tactical and skillful sailing to stay ahead of the bunch.

The light conditions (force 2) appeared to suit the crew of Cacciaatore however. Although they failed to replicate an almost perfect first day – two first places and a second – Richard Barnes’ Cacciatore finished the second day with three finishes all in the top six.

It was Dooddle who clearly enjoyed the best of the day’s breeze however. After taking a disappointing tenth in race four, the crew of Dooddle sailed two great races, and won both race five and six. They finished the day in second place overall, only 6 points behind championship leaders Cacciaatore. For all race results, click here.
