Royal Corinthian YC launch Admiral's Cup alternative regatta

The cancellation of the Admiral’s Cup has left a many sailors with a hole in their sailing and holiday plans this summer so, by popular demand, the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, Cowes is to host the Vice Admiral’s Cup, an alternative regatta, over the weekend of 9-11 July.

A total of 20 boats have already signed up and the event is generating considerable interest among crews whose Admiral’s Cup plans have been scuppered. The regatta is open to classes such as Farr 45s, Swan 45s, DK46s, Farr 40s, Kerr 11.3s and, in addition there will be a dedicated Mumm 30 class. All competing yachts shall be of a series production class (of which at least four have be constructed) and fleets will be organised as follows:

Class 1 – 44′-46′ Class. Maximum IRC rating 1.240.

Class 2 – 37′-41′ Class. Maximum IRC rating 1.18.

Class 3 – Mumm 30s

The intention is to provide a fun weekend of competitive racing on Solent courses with committee boat starts. Eight races are scheduled with the first start at 1030 on Saturday and the final start no later than 1330 on Monday. There will also be plenty of apres sailing fun with a dinner on Saturday night and a BBQ on Sunday.
