Germany adopts the 29er as its High Performance Youth Boat
Germany’s sailing federation – Deutscher Segler-Verband (DSV) – voted at the weekend to give the 29er full youth status in Germany. According to the British builders Ovington Marine this will have a huge impact on the class both in Germany and the surrounding nations.
This year will also see for the first time a fleet of 29ers at Kiel Week. A start at one of the largest dinghy regattas in the world is a sure sign that the 29er is recognised by the world as a class on its own as well as the perfect training boat for larger skiffs such as the 49er.
Seeing the success the UK has had over the last few years, Germany has now followed the RYA’s foresight and initiative with the introduction of the 29er to their Youth programme.
