Big event planned for National Twelves at Ripon SC this July 4/6/07
The National Twelve Owners Association is trying to reach out to non-members that own and sail National Twelves, in order to extend an invitation to a summer event at Ripon Sailing Club over the weekend of 7-8 July. Antony Gifford, Chairman of the NTOA, said: “? it is tough to get the message out to non-members but we would love to see a large gathering of 12s and do not care if they are sailed by members of the NTOA or non-member at the Ripon event. This event is all about seeing lots or people out in 12s having fun.”
The weekend will encompass the fifth round of the national Gill Series, and so attract the leading modern boats, a large fleet of Vintage and large numbers of older generation 12s. The older boats are significantly more competitive in this historic development class on inland venues and will be looking to cause the odd upset. It is already shaping up to be the biggest gathering of Vintage 12s in 2007.
There will be no requirement to join the NTOA in order to participate at Ripon, in common with all events organised by the NTOA throughout the year, and all Twelve sailors are very welcome.
A dinner is being organised at the club on Saturday night, giving all participants and other friends of the class an opportunity to share their enthusiasm for the National 12 class. On Sunday morning there will be a separate pursuit race, with boat age based handicapping, to add to the fun aspect of the weekend.
