Competitors at the 29er and 49er nationals at Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy enjoyed a fun day's racing yesterday
The third day of the 29er and 49er national championship at Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy championship brought a whole different wind and weather system. A dull day was brightened up by a 15kt wind and some spectacular sailing. It gave the chance for some of the wind freaks to show their expertise and change the order on the results sheet.
In the 49er James MacIntosh and Phil Kennard dominated the day pulling themselves up to second overall. John Pink and Alex Hopson still hang onto the lead with a steady day. Dave Evans and Mark Asquith did enough to keep third while Paul Towers and Ben Remmoker had a great day to pull them up to fourth overall and 1st Master by a long way.
The 29er fleet is still led by the Australian team of Dave O’Conner and Scott Babbage with Sophie Jones and Ben McVie now slipped to fourth. Ed Chapman and Tom Peel now take the second in the regatta and first overall in the British championship. Tristen Jaques and Alain Sign have still to find the form that has seen them dominate the last two Eurocup events.
