Skandia Cowes Week continues with a host of events on and off the water
The IRM fleet take to the water today in pursuit of another prestigious trophy: the New York Yacht Club Challenge Cup. Presented to the Royal Yacht Squadron by the NYYC in 1951, the trophy aims to encourage overseas yachts to race at Cowes. Eyes will be fixed on 2003 cup winnerWolf, who came through in a surprise victory yesterday in the Britannia Cup competition. Other trophies of the 24 to be won today include the Emirates Trophy for the Sigma 33s and the Calcott Reilly Bowl for the Swallow class – with a southwesterly breeze freshening throughout the day, fair winds and fierce competition should yield some exciting racing.
There is plenty going on ashore too, especially for the kids. Sparky the Robot will be on walkabout today at the Skandia Cowes Week Parade Village and street theatre is busy again with Lemmings’ comic act, model boat sailing and the Castle Jazz Band. Cowes Yacht Haven is hosting various tests of strength and stamina: at 1645 crews will take part in the Timberland Tug of War to compete for the title of “Strongest Team”, while grinding continues from 1200-2000 in the Sail 4 Cancer Lewmar winch competition.
The entertainment scene continues with more comedy, DJs and live music at the Trinity Theatre withShipwrecked at Cowes. Mount Gay party bandT Rextasywill perform this evening on the main stage at Cowes Yacht Haven, or for a night of funky beats with just a hint of latin love, get down to Northwood House forLatino Mondo. Dress code – hot and sexy.

Finally, don’t miss the Red Arrows, who will be performing a stomach-flipping aerial display at 1800. Great views of the spectacle will be had from all along the Cowes waterfront.
