After crossing the Ingles Sydney to Gold Coast race half way point mid morning today and getting past the parking lot off Smokey Cape, the Game Set crew have had a 30kt which was on the nose for most of the afternoon.

“We’ve had a long, hard day and haven’t gone far,” reported skipper Tony Kirby earlier this evening. Lumpy seas with short sharp chop has may the going tough, as the crew push the boat towards the finish line.

Changing back from a No 4 headsail to a No 1, the crew are currently hard on the wind. They have had one of two extremes today, either drifting or bashing into the weather, as was predicted by Kirby earlier today.

‘The crew have packed up the spinnaker sheets for the rest of the race, which says it all’ commented Kirby as the crew prepared for a lasagne dinner and a third night sailing in light conditions.

Keeping company with the X-Yachts Sextant and Cyrene 3 and Sydney 38s, the Match 38 has been sailing inside the rhumb line close to the shore for most of the day.

Currently Game Set have a 15 knot north-nor’ west breeze “At this pace and in these conditions we are aiming for an ETA of 24 hours, we’ll be glad to get across the finish line and have a few quiet drinks,” remarked Kirby.

The Ingles Sydney Gold Coast race yacht tracker system currently has Game Set progressing up the position ladder and in third place in the IRC division D, while they also move forward in the overall IRC results. Game Set still has 130 miles to go and are averaging a boat speed of five knots.
