Seven national teams to compete in this year's regatta
The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS), will host the Sardinia Rolex Cup, 19 – 26 June 2004. The week-long regatta will take place in Porto Cervo with 21 boats from six countries. For the first time, the Sardinia Rolex Cup will be classified as the “Offshore ISAF Team World Championship”. Each national team will participate with three different types of yachts: an IMS rated boat, a Swan 45 and a Farr 40.
Commodore Gianfranco Alberini of the YCCS said; “We are pleased to welcome some of the world’s most respected sailors to the Sardinia Rolex Cup. With the strong support of our long-standing partner, Rolex, we look forward to an exciting week of great competition and enjoyable social activities.”
This bi-annual event, first held in 1978, has attracted the attention of the U.S yacht racing community, which has confirmed the participation of established competitors including Marco W. Birch sailing Talisman, John Coumantaros with Bambakou and J. Craig Speck on Mascalzone Latino. Other countries represented will include Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Argentina.
