Engine problems force Bullimore to make crash landing and crew member falls overboard 21/11/06
Tony Bullimore and his crew aboard the 102ft catamaran Doha 2006 made a crash landing when they arrived in Albany Western Australia this morning.
According to a news story by Rob Kothe published earlier today Bullimore and team encountered engine problems and hit the jetty with such a force that one crew member – Simon Reeding – fell overboard. Fortunately no one was reported injured but a slightly embarrassed looking Bullimore admitted: “?we don’t have reverse on the boat because of engine problems.”
Bullimore who’s en-route to Tasmania for the start of his solo global record attempt hit the headlines last week when his shore crew were unable to contact him for 11 days due to a complete breakdown in the yacht’s communication system. He finally made contact with the outside world at lunchtime on Saturday.
Bullimore is expected to remain in Albany for a few days to carry out repairs before setting sail again to Tasmania for the start of his solo global record attempt.
