A team from Laser has successfully scaled Snowdonia's 15 peaks for charity 18/10/06
Laser, one of the largest dinghy manufacturers in the world, has shown it is as happy at 3,000ft high as it is at sea level.
Its climbing team has successfully scaled Snowdonia’s 15 peaks in 48 hours to raise £8,000 for Sailability, the RYA’s charity for sailors with disabilities.
The team completed the 30 miles of peaks stretching from Snowdon to Foel Fras despite treacherous weather conditions.
It was an exhilarating achievement, according to team leader and Managing Director of Laser, Dave Graham: “One climber was blown over in the wind and torrential rain combined with dense fog resulted in our team getting lost, but we were determined to complete the challenge for such a great cause.”
Laser’s ongoing commitment to Sailability was shown recently when its unique Laser Pico – the only blue one in the UK – was donated as first prize in an auction, raising £3,000 at the Southampton Boat Show for the charity.
Prizewinner, 74-year-old Derek Paul from Thames Ditton in Surrey, who had never sailed before, said: “I am shell-shocked to have won this amazing boat. It’s very exciting to get the opportunity to try such a fantastic new experience.”
The new intrepid sailor says that he is determined that his son, aged 40 and granddaughters aged 6 and 7, will join him to experience the joys of sailing for themselves.
