Deal and Marrriott win final round of RS800 Fat Face Circuit 29/9/06
Unseasonable sunny skies and light winds greeted the 20-strong RS 800 fleet at Queen Mary SC last weekend for the final round in the 2006 Fat Face Circuit.
In 5-8 knots of breeze and wind shifts of 30 degrees Baker and Hughes won the four-round first race, with Watson and Holmes hauling their way up into second ahead of Roome and Hall in third.
The second race of the day saw Justin Deal and Sarah Marriott back on form. Deal and Marriott held the lead all the way to the finish to take the bullet.
A big left-hand shift caused a quick course change before the start of race three but once underway Adrian and Julia Coatsworth led the way. However, in the shifty, patchy breeze Deal and Marriott sailed the shifts well and took their second win of the day.
Sunday dawned but the wind did not. One hour into the postponement and a gentle 5 knots filled in across the lake; back to business as usual. The fleet was off. By the final round Styce and Lister rounded the top mark with a decent lead, but Deal and Marriott once again snatched victory. Baker and Hughes took third overall.
Race 5 and the pressure was on! Cornah and Murray however, caught the best pressure of the day and beat Watson and Holmes across the line by about three inches. A second later Martin and Sophie crossed the line.
First out of the blocks in the final race, and leading all the way to the finish was Deal and Marriott, their fourth win of the series. Cornah and Murray held second while Julia and Adrian Coatsworth came third.
And so the top three were decided: Neil Baker and James Hughes took third spot, Rob Watson and James Holmes took second while Justin Deal and Sarah Marriott took First place.
