Volvo Ocean race competitors blast through the Southern Ocean in over 40knots of wind
Sensational footage of Volvo Ocean Race competitor Team Telefónica being hit by two giant waves arrived in the office this morning. The video was shot as they sail through the Southern Ocean in over 40 knots of wind on Leg 5 from Auckland, New Zealand to Itajaí in Brazil . The deck crew struggled to stay on their feet as the ferocity of the 10 metre waves knocked them over. The footage was shot from one of the four fixed cameras on the boat and gives an amazing insight into the conditions faced by Volvo competitors.
