The RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club) have invited the RYA, as UK’s National Governing Body, to send four teams of three boats to the Rolex Commodores’ Cup, which takes place from the 25 July – 1 August 2004.

Two of the four teams will be given to Scotland and Wales to compete in the event and the other two teams of three boats will be determined by selection trials that will be open to all of Great Britain. If either Wales or Scotland can’t put a team together the place will be included with those determined through the selection trials.

The English selections will observe the Spring Series, Red Funnel Regatta, De Guingand Bowl and Morgan Cup Race. The official selections will take place over the weekend of the 11 June during the Myth of Malham Race as well as an inshore weekend on the 5-6 June hosted by the RTYC and the IRC Championships 18-20 June. The two English teams will be announced on the 22 June.

RYA Racing Services Manager David Atkinson commented: “We have already had a number of enquiries and it looks like the trials should attract a high level of interest. It is a great competition and I really urge interested boat owners to come forward.”

Pete Bryson, Chairman, RYA Racing, Offshore Group added: “We are determined to put up strong teams with every chance of winning this prestigious event and this new format will ensure that the best teams go on to represent the Country.”
