Bruno Peyron's record-breaking maxi cat will be in London soon 13/7/06
Having barely had the time to recover from the express Atlantic crossing (4 days 8 hours), the Orange II crew sailed towards the boat’s technical base in Lorient in order to carry out the necessary repairs on the port rudder blade, damaged during the record. The giant cat will also undergo a quick overall check-up before heading to London.
The mighty cat will set sails on 22 July, heading for London, where she will stay the 24-25 July, moored next to Tower Bridge: her size prevents her from going under the famous monument!
To confirm Team Orange II’s recent world record, the WSSR Council have announced ratification. Peyron and team are officially the new World Record holders for the Outright Greatest distance sailed in 24 hours. The distance sailed was 766.8 nm at an average speed of 31.95kts. Bruno Peyron and Orange II also held the previous record, where in 2004 they covered 706.2nm at an average speed of 29.42kts.
