The Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship will take place at the Weymouth Olympic venue 6/7/06
A record 64 nations will compete at Great Britain 2012 Olympic venue this July for the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship 2006.
Over 350 of the world’s best young sailors will be battling it out for the title of ISAF Youth World Champion, adding their name to a distinguished list of sailors who have previously worn the crown including Great Britain’s own Ben Ainsle.
Home of the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy will host the 36th edition of this premier youth event from 12-21 July, with potential young Olympians hoping that a podium finish at this summer’s regatta could translate to an Olympic medal at the very same venue in six years’ time.
In addition to the on-the-water action, the 10-day festival of sailing will also see visits from the London 2012 roadshow with Keith Mills and Jack Lemley attending on Saturday 15 July, and HRH The Princess Royal – President, Royal Yachting Association – on Tuesday 18 July.
The event will also be supported by some of Britain’s top sailors:
Olympic gold medallist Sarah Ayton will attend the opening ceremony on 13 July
Britain’s top RS:X windsurfer Nick Dempsey, along with solo sailors Alex Thomson and Mike Golding will all be on hand during the layday (17 July), to offer advice and inspiration to the young sailors.
