Pete Goss and Paul Larsen encounter hull problems off Outer Hebrides 19/6/06

Pete Goss and Paul Larsen competing the Shetland Round Britain and Ireland Race have had to divert towards the Isle of Lewis on the Outer Hebrides with hull problems.

Racing the revolutionary SeaCart 30 trimaran – Cornwall Playing for Success – Goss and Larsen have this morning reported damage to hull. It’s still unclear as to the extent of the damage but according to Helena Darvelid Larsen’s partner they decided to take precautionary action owing to the big winds that are due to hit the area in the next 24 hours.

Speaking to yachtingworld.com this morning Darvelid said: “The boys are fine but not really knowing how much damage has been done they felt they shouldn’t carry on. They are trying to reach the mainland as opposed Lewis in case the damage is extensive.”

The initial concern was that the 30ft tri had collided with something but according to Darvelid this is not the case. The team is currently heading in south-easterly direction in 9kts of north-easterly breeze.

More news later once the team arrive ashore.
