The White Air wavesailing competition is finally underway on the Isle of Wight

The White Air wavesailing competition is finally underway on the Isle of Wight after Wednesday’s postponement due to insufficient wind.

Despite light winds and lack of waves the White Air wavesailing competition finally got underway yesterday with an expression session. In this freestyle event competitors had 40 minutes each to demonstrate their variety of tricks as well as their capability in basic wave riding style.

John Skye won the session for greatest variety as he mixed new school freestyle with traditional solid wave performance. His winning tricks included high landed back loops, forward loops, push loops and grubbys.

Andy Funnel came in second place. With his new school style, he successfully completed a slick flaka on a wave face. Robby Swift took third.

With better wave and wind conditions predicted for the weekend, the competition is expected to intensify, with the slalom and kite boarding competitions still to come. For more information go to www.whiteair.co.uk/www.whiteair.co.uk>
