Annapolis sailor Christy Rodman will circumnavigate the globe in a J/46 and, via internet, will share her experiences with the next generation of adventurers
Later this month Annapolis sailor and dive instructor Christy Rodman, 29, will embark on the adventure of her life, joining a crew aboard a J/46 Aragorn, circumnavigating the globe and sharing her experiences with the next generation of adventurers.
Rodman has established an interactive website, www.FindingChristy.com, in which she will document her travels and experiences. Her goal is to educate and inspire youngsters, and in preparation for her 20 October departure, she has been visiting local schools to talk with students about her plans.
Rodman will leave Norfolk, Virginia and head for the Caribbean aboard David and Charly Holmes’ schooner Adventure. In Antigua in January, she will join the crew of Aragorn for a two-year round-the-world cruising rally.
Her website, with artwork by Annapolis cartoonist Jim Hunt, will allow students to send her e-mail with questions, read her daily log entries, learn what it’s like to live on a boat and sail around the world. They will also be able to view photos and video of the places she visits, learn about foreign cultures, follow her route and find her on a map, tracking her progress by finding coordinates.
