The 70 Mini Transat teams are this morning currently preparing their yachts for this afternoon’s start of the second leg of the race across the Atlantic to Brazil.

This 2,900mile leg from Puerto Calero, Lanzarote to El Salvador de Bahia starts at 1300, and while some crews have had more than a week to recover after leg one from La Rochelle, others have not been so fortunate including David Lancry.

Lancry, sailing 121 – Mensura Frost, damaged his mast and had to wait in Corogne for nearly a week for his new mast to arrive. He set off a few days ago and arrived in Lanzarote last night just as the race committee was briefing the fleet on the next leg. As Lancry sailed in to the harbour the briefing drew to close and celebrations to mark Lancry’s finish, began. According to Lancry he feels in really good form now having slept for eight hours a day during the race. And has full intention of setting off this afternoon with the rest of the fleet. He does however, have to pass the final medical examination this morning before he gets the final go ahead to join the others on the start line.
