Sailing Logic Racing have announced plans to encourage young people to get into racing 21/4/06
Southampton-based sailing school, Sailing Logic Racing, are launching a new sailing academy to encourage young people between the ages of 18 to 25 to get involved in yacht racing and the marine industry.
Over the past year Sailing Logic Racing’s teams have enjoyed success with wins in their class of the Rolex Fastnet Race with Yachting World’s very own Jo Cackett and the RORC offshore championships.
This new initiative is designed to allow enthusiastic 18 to 25 year olds to race to a high level who may not otherwise have the opportunity to do so. The academy will also provide a stepping stone for those wanting to enter the world of professional sailing in the future.
Utilising the input and skills of some of the country’s top professional sailors and coaches such as Mark Rushall, Sailing Logic Racing have developed a structured training programme. Director of Racing at Sailing Logic Philippe Falle, comments: “We have brought a highly professional approach to our campaigns which we hope many young people in the future can gain benefit from. We feel this Sailing Academy will bridge the gap between high level professional sailing, club racing and dinghy sailing.”
The Sailing Academy will run several campaigns and training programmes throughout the year ranging in duration and required commitment levels.
There will be opportunities to undertake a complete season of racing that will incorporate all the major inshore events along the South Coast starting with the Warsash Spring Series in March and culminating with the Hamble Winter Series in October. In addition there will be several places on smaller campaigns such as at Cowes Week that incorporates three intensive training weekends or the Hamble Winter Series.
Four Reflex 38 yachts will provide an excellent platform to also run five day training sessions concentrating on boat to boat tactics, tuning, speed and teamwork.
Sailing Logic Racing are seeking corporate funding and various grants to meet the financial implications of providing opportunities for many youngsters.
Managing Director Allie Smith said: “We are looking for a title sponsor of the campaign. The remaining cost we hope to spread out amongst smaller business partners who will be encouraged to support specific events and training programmes. This structure makes a cost-effective way for businesses and individuals to support the project. The sailing academy will provide an excellent opportunity for many companies in the marine industry to put something back and support an exciting concept.”
