Another guessing game in the sun for Skandia Cowes Week sailors
On the last day of racing at Skandia Cowes Week the wind is yet again keeping race officers and competitors guessing. A breeze is forecast, but it will be a sea breeze and this week that sort of breeze has been pretty fickle.
On the days it was supposed to die away it’s picked up, but on other days it has just faded away, leaving yachts sprinkled all over the Solent and leading to many a request to passing motor boats for a tow back to Cowes.
Today race director Stuart Quarrie thinks it will be possible to get the yachts started, but the difficulty will be getting them back on light airs and a building tide. The current plan is to commence the start sequence and then postpone if the breeze fades away.
