Despite the gloomy drizzle this evening, yachts are pouring in to the Cowes marinas in preparation for Skandia Cowes Week, which starts tomorrow. A total of 947 boats have already signed up for the regatta and with entries still flowing in, there’s likely to be over 950 boats on the start line in the morning.
With a high pressure system establishing itself over the North Sea and blocking any low pressure systems moving in from the Atlantic, the chances of some exciting racing on the first couple of days is looking fairly slim. Tomorrow should see a light northerly and, with the land warming up during the day, a gentle sea breeze will fill in from the south-east in the Eastern Solent, and from the south-west in the Western Solent later in the day. It will however, be hot and definitely a day for the shorts, sunglasses and suncream.
