To date, 167 entries have been received for the GP Fourteen World Championship which is taking place from 9-15 August in Abersoch. The fleet will be mainly made up of UK boats, but there is a significant number of Irish boats attending and with entries from the USA, South Africa, Ceylon, Nigeria, Spain and New Zealand making it a true World Championship.
This is an unprecedented show of support for an event which is still nearly two months away. All the indications are that this will be one of the biggest dinghy championships in the UK this year.
The class association launched a dedicated event website at the beginning of December, which has so far received thousands of hits, currently at a rate of over 600 per week . Among its features are regular news items, interviews, accommodation details and other essential information.
Last weekend a training weekend was held at Abersoch for 20 boats to acclimatise to the sailng area and location. This was hosted by the current National Champion and his crew plus a former National Champion and Area winner, all passing on their various tips and expertise, an event that shouldn’t have been missed.
