The third RS Fat Face event of the season took place at Weston SC last weekend
On 17-18 May, 17 RS600 visited Weston Sailing Club for the third RS Fat Face racing circuit event of the year.
The first race, started in 20 knots, saw Pete Sanders make good use of the pin bias to clear the fleet on port. Matt Humphreys sailed well to eventually take first place even after two capsizes, with Pete in second and Ian Marshall third.
The second race once again saw Matt stay upright to take first from Pete in second and Jon Hessig in third.
Race three was sailed in increasing breeze and torrential showers which created carnage on the runs and reaches Pete sailed superbly to win from Ian in second with Adrian White third.
Sunday morning saw a constant 23 knots of wind with gusts of up to 27 knots.
Race four got away cleanly and Matt led at the weather mark after getting the lay line spot on. Matt stayed out front and was followed into second by Mark Barron with Howard Edwards third.
By the start of the fifth race the wind was still increasing and so was the chop. The runs where becoming frightening and the reaches exhilarating as gusts of 30 knots became more frequent. The downwind leg of the square was claiming the majority of victims as the chop was short and steep at the gybe point.
With the wind still increasing the sixth race was abandoned. Overall results were Matt Humphreys first, Pete Sanders second and Jon Heissig third.
