The 21st Angostura Tobago Race Week ended in fine style on Friday with the fourth race completed and the prizegiving party living up to all expectations.

With the outcome of most of the overall results resting on this last race, competitors were up bright and early in the sparkling sunshine building breeze to enjoy the some of the week’s toughest racing. For the team aboard Guardian Star however, sailing the local Beneteau First Class 10, things looked rosy from the outset and with an overall score of just six points after four races they deservedly won top honours in the Racing Class and overall.

Despite being dubbed as a fun regatta, there was no shortage of cut-throat competition right up to the finish line in the remaining classes. Apart from in Charter Class 1 where Saga Boy, the Jeanneau Int 50 chartered by David and Vicki Downie took a clear win with just four points over Long Gone, the Feeling 48, things were not so clear cut in the remaining classes.

But, like all good Caribbean regattas, as soon as the finish guns were fired the serious racing turned in to serious liming with competitors making the most of warm Tobagan hospitality and ice cold rum. As the sun went down the prizegiving ceremony commenced in fine style followed by a spectacular outdoor, sit-down meal. With the rum and wine well and truly flowing and the beat of the local music creating that special atmosphere, the party was getting spicy hot with learning to perfect the art of the local, raunchy Soca dancing being the main priority, concluding yet another, top class Tobago Sail Week.
