Sir Robin Knox-Johnston to host charity auction dinner in London 6/2/06
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston the first person to ever sail solo non-stop around the world is hosting an exclusive auction dinner at Plaisterer’s Hall in the City of London on behalf of the The Eve Appeal and Macmillan Cancer Relief on 26 April 2006.
The famous sailor is hosting the dinner and auctioning ‘money can’t buy’ sailing memorabilia to raise vital funds for The Eve Appeal, publicly launched in 2005 to fund crucial research into ovarian cancer with the aim of reducing the mortality rate by half within the next ten years. Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s wife Sue was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2001, during his wife’s illness Sue was cared for by Macmillan nurses and Sir Robin is keen to support Macmillan Cancer Relief as well because the charity provided the vital support, encouragement and understanding needed by him and his wife during the difficult time.
The auction prizes that have been confirmed have a maritime feel to them, with guests able to bid for the sail of the Suhali (the yacht that Sir Robin sailed around the world in) which has been made in to a bag by a celebrity designer, a day’s sailing with Sir Robin for 12 people, a bottle of Champagne taken around the world by Ellen MacArthur one week’s fishing on the Teign River in Devon and much more to be announced.
The dinner will be held at Plaisterers Hall in the City of London. Tickets are available through Macmillan London Events on 0207 795 0055 and cost £125 per person.
