A Grand Prix for the Dragon class will take place in Germany for the first time. From 1-4 July the new Hanseatic Lloyd Grand Prix will be held in the Bay of Kiel. The benefit event ‘Charity Golf & Race’ will take place within this framework on 3 July. Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden, founder of the World Childhood Foundation, will be the patron of the event.

The event will be hosted jointly by the Yacht-Club Strande and the Kieler Yacht-Club. After the opening event on 30 June the participants will sail on four days: six races are planned from 1-4 July. As was already the case at the 2005 Dragon World Championship, a benefit event will be included in the programme.

On 3 July the focus on the water as well as on the green will be the good cause, under the motto ‘Charity Golf & Race’. At the regatta guests can also take part in the sailing or follow the race from accompanying yachts. Partners and customers of invited companies will tee off at the start of the golf tournament. In the evening everyone will talk shop together at the Charity Evening.

Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden has agreed to be patron of the ‘Charity Golf & Race’. She will attend the golf tournament as well as give the starting signal for the regatta. The proceeds for her Childhood Foundation came to 110,000 euros on that occasion.

Following the success of the Dragon anniversary regatta in St Tropez in 2004(see photo)and the World Championship in Neustadt in 2005 Hanseatic Lloyd’s commitment will be carried on consistently through the shipping company’s sponsorship.

The HLL Dragon Grand Prix in Strande from 1-4 July will also mark the start of a new scoring system for the Dragon Baltic Cup. Of five dragon regattas in the Baltic Sea (Goldener Pfingstbusch, Kiel Week, HLL Grand Prix, Danish Championship in Arhus and Technogym Wellness Cup in Köge), three will go into the scoring. Based on the ranking system of the Dragon class, the best helmsman and crew will be determined and honoured with an attractive prize.
