After a 3,400 mile journey, ten yachts participating in the SAP Cape to Rio have missed the final cut-off time
After a gruelling journey of more than 3,400 miles, ten yachts participating in the SAP Cape to Rio 2003 missed the final cut-off time. The deadline expired at 13h00 GMT (15h00 SA time) today, 32 days after the first fleet left on 4 January.
Derek Shuttleworth, skipper of the yacht inspia!2041, will have the dubious honour of being the first entry to finish after the official deadline. Shuttleworth, is expected across the line shortly after 18h00 SA time.
Participants who are still out on the water are Madame Pazzazz, Forsdicks BMW, Scorpio, 34 South @ Knysna, loveLife, Inyoni, Big Reef, Nauty 40’s and Cumin Thru. Except for the last three entries, who all still have over 300 nautical miles to cover before they reach the Carnival City, the rest of the crews are expected to arrive in Rio de Janeiro in time for the prizegiving ceremony which takes place on Friday evening.
