Geronimo, Olivier de Kersauson’s Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and Schneider Electric trimaran has increased her average speed to 23.39 and is now 15 miles south of the Equator. The speedy multihull has is currently skirting the Doldrums at a position of 32°17’W 0°15’S, in 11 knots north-easterly winds but is still flying along at 17 knots despite the choppy sea.

While it is too early to confirm, it looks as though Geronimo could have broken the record for the southward leg to the Equator which was set in 1994 by the late Sir Peter Blake and the crew of the catamaran, Enza with a time of 7 days, 4 hours and 22 minutes.
