130’ J Class sloop out of 18 month refit
Iconic J Boat Endeavour was launched in
Auckland on Saturday following an extensive 18-month refit programme at the Yachting Developments yard in Hobsonville.
The yacht now boasts a complete new weather
deck including all deck equipment, and relocation of all steel deck framing.
Inside has also witnessed an overhaul, with
the main engine, generators, winches, electrical systems, hydraulics and air
conditioning either upgraded to the latest available technology or replaced.
On Saturday morning the new carbon fibre
mast was installed, built by Southern Spars. The Auckland based company has
recently seen a boom in production of the complex new technology, as it
becomes the material of choice for all the Volvo Ocean Race yachts and a major
segment of the super yacht market.
Yachting Developments Managing Director Ian Cook describes
working on Endeavour as “an honor, she is something special, everyone involved
has put their heart and soul into the refit, I think the care, and passion is
very evident in the end result”.
Following completion of sea trials, the J
class yacht will be shipped to the northern hemisphere to compete in the 2012 J
Class regattas.
