The final day of racing in the Laser World Open and Women’s Championships got underway at Buffalo Canoe Club in Ontario, Canada after a one hour delay to allow the wind to build.
In the Women’s championship Katarzyna Szotynski from Poland scored a third behind her closest rival, Miranda Powrie of New Zealand and race winner Abigail Devlin of the USA to take her third Laser Radial title with a race to spare.
In the Open Championship Karlo Krpeljevic from Croatia did not have it so easy, scoring an eighth place. His nearest rival Chris Ashley (USA) helped him by placing 17th, his worst result in the series. Race winner Ryan Minth (USA) started at the committee boat end of the line and was never headed.
Ashley still had a chance if he could score a top three placing in the last race but lost that chance after being disqualified for only completing seven-eighths of a penalty turn for a rule 42 infringement.
