Today’s light, shifty winds kept competitors on their toes throughout the first two races of Cork Week. The Hunter 707 class is one of the largest fleets at the regatta and not surprisingly competition was red hot right down the fleet. Peter Sonken’s Impromptu-Too cleaned up in the first race of the day while Derek Blancke in Censored took the second. Added to the fifth he gained in race one, he is now the overnight leader, five points ahead of 3 Little Pigs.

Further down the fleet, John Powell with his super-hot team from Warsash who cleaned up at the recent Warsash Spring Series and the Sportsboat Spring regatta, didn’t have such a good day but, optimistic to the end Powell commented, “Tomorrow’s another day and we’re looking forward to some good racing for the rest of the week. We had a bad day today – a bad start, hit the wrong edge of the course, and every tactic was wrong. The first beat was a favoured a little bit right and then left and we did we the complete opposite – ooh we had a bad day and the bad news is there’s only one discard. All we need now is six firsts!” .
