The 4th Metre & Classic Keelboat Regatta anticipates over 90 entries at Cowes this week.

Cowes 25th July 2011. Over 90 boats will be racing in this year’s
Metre and Classic Keelboat Regatta at Cowes. The four-day event will see participants
from more classes then ever before, with Dragons and Yarmouth One Designs
competing, as well as new entries Mylne One Designs from the Royal Mersey Yacht
Club and Loch Longs from Aldenburgh and Cove.

From 25-29 July, the regatta will manage class racing for metre boats and classic keelboats. New for
2011 is the menagerie fleet, a chance for any classic keelboat to race
including unique or one-off designs.

Racing will be on a mix
of laid and round-the-buoys courses, multiple race areas and committee boat
starts. There will be two races a day. A full programme of racing and social events has been organised, with a number of clubs hosting evening entertainment.

This year’s regatta also
celebrates two anniversaries – the Centenary of the X One Designs and the 50th of the Darings. Both
classes are planning major celebrations.

The Metre and Classic Keelboat racing starts tomorrow and with good
weather forecast, it looks worthy of a visit if you are near the Solent.

The 4th Metre & Classic Keelboat Regatta starts on Monday 25th July and lasts until Friday 29th
July 2011 in Cowes. For full details visit www.cowesclassicsweek.org
