The Melges 24 world championship planned for early November in Fort Lauderdale will go ahead
Following the terrible events in America last week the IMCA has been reviewing its situation with regard to the forthcoming Melges 24 world championship to be held in Ft Lauderdale, Florida from 8-18 November. The IMCA has been in regular contact with the Lauderdale Yacht Club during the last week and can now confirm that there is no intention to cancel the 2001 Melges 24 World Championship.
The terrible events of last week have left a mark on us all, but all concerned were in agreement that the best tribute we can pay to the victims of this tragedy is to continue with the event and not allow their murderers to dictate how we lead our lives.
So the message is clear, the Melges 24 Worlds are still very much on and the IMCA and Lauderdale Yacht Club look forward to welcoming competitors from all over the world to Ft Lauderdale.
