Bob Beggs and the West Country warriors of Bristol Clipper have won the 14th race of The Times Clipper Race 2000
Bristol Clipper eased across the finish line of the 14th race of The Times Clipper Race off Ambrose Point off New York at 2127 Zulu on 19 August, taking another leg win. A delighted Beggs celebrated Bristol’s return to the top of the overall leaderboard – by 0.4 points – ahead of Paul De La Haye’s Jersey Clipper.
Martin Clough’s Portsmouth Clipper finished second, 6.5 hours behind at 0554 Zulu 20 August, while London Clipper finished third at 1532 the same day. London’s time was corrected to 1107 after she was obliged to stop to repair a dodgy alternator or face the leg with dwindling power.
De La Haye’s Jersey crossed at 1231, fourth after London’s correction, dropping them to second overall and setting up a thriller for the next leg – to Jersey.
Plymouth crossed at 1601 on 20 August, less than an hour ahead of Liverpool Clipper with an exhausted Jessica Daw, reporting on the leg for Yachting World, happy to be back on dry land.
Leeds and Glasgow finished at 0218 and 0409 respectively the following day.
