Dexia Eure et Loir has completed the cirumnavigation in record time with 45 minutes to spare
The 60ft trimaran Dexia Eure et Loir owned by Robert Winbourne and co-skippered by Rodney Patterson and Frances Joyon has completed the Hoya Round the Island race in a record time of 3 hours 10 minutes and 11 seconds, smashing the previous record, also held by Patterson since 1986, by 45 minutes.
The trimaran completed the circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight so quickly that it caught us still in the Western Solent watching the rear of the fleet sail past!. We arrived off of Cowes just minutes later but already the crew had dropped sails, tied to a buoy and left the deserted ship for a run ashore, as our picture, taken at 1200, shows. For a portfolio of over 150 photographs from today’s action, click here
