This month we’ve celebrated the heroes of the South. Next month we look north to the Arctic to some of the greatest sailing endeavours ever. Sailing north has long been connected with climbing and it was Bill Tilman who was the original exponent, though many have followed in his wake, including the Rev Bob Shepton who, in his 33ft Westerly, has made a number of trips to Greenland with novice crew and climbers. Then there are those who have found the legendary North West Passage and the ‘Impassable’ North East Passage.
