It may not be the prettiest dinghy I’ve ever seen but the concept of the Yves Loday-designed Laser Funboat is certainly very interesting.
It may not be the prettiest dinghy I’ve ever seen but the concept of the Yves Loday-designed Laser Funboat, which is on display on the Laser stand at the London Boat Show, is certainly very interesting.
This new, simple, robust, tunnel-hulled type 3.90m beginners’ dinghy is definitely making a big hit with holiday companies who are apparently putting in some massive orders for the coming holiday season.
But why would you choose this over the Pico or the Topper for example? Well, according to Laser it’s the underwater hull shape that makes it far more stable and suitable for the complete beginner. And because of the shape of the hulls there’s no need for daggerboards. The other advantages for the complete beginner are the large amount of headroom and plenty of cockpit space.
Watch out for the forthcoming Funboat boat test where the sailpower.com test team will find out if she’s really as much fun as she sounds!
