Video of the new Rambler 88 being launched
Here’s a great video of Rambler 88 being launched from New England Boatworks, including some interviews with the builders and engineers and some footage of her canting keel being attached.
It also shows her remarkable saw-toothed rudders, featuring ‘tubercles’ posited to aid flow over the rudders and manoeuvrability.
The new 88-footer, designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian, replaces David’s previous yachts, Rambler 90 and 100, both of which won numerous regattas, including the Caribbean 600 in 2011, the Newport to Bermuda Race in 2012, and and the Block Island Race in 2011 and 2013.
If you want to see how very different this sleek machine is from Rambler 100, watch here – it shows the two boats alongside right before R88 goes in the water.
And if you’d like to know a bit more background, here’s our earlier story.
