Following a fruitful partnership, culminating in the Route du Rhum, the Gitana Team – founded by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild in 2000 – and sailor Yann Guichard have decided not to renew their agreement.

For the 2011 season, Gitana wishes to entrust the helm of its various boats to two skippers: a driver of the Extreme 40 Edmond de Rothschild Group (Extreme Sailing Series) and the Multi One Design aboard a 70 foot one design trimaran.

This strategic development is based around the Extreme Sailing Series programme, which will see some new top level competitors doing battle in the 2011 season (read more here). At the same time, the launch of the Multi One Design will require considerable investment both in sporting and technical terms.

Gitana and Yann Guichard weren’t able to come to an agreement as regards the new organisation for this proposed new sports programme.
