Young Kiwi skipper enjoys clean sweep, defeating last year's winner along the way
Phil Robertson (NZ) is on his way to a clean sweep on the first day of the Sunseeker Australia Cup. The young Kiwi skipper manoeuvred his way through the first day of the Sunseeker Australia Cup (Perth, Western Australia) undefeated in a field that would over awe considerably older skippers.
Most notable was his defeat of last year’s winner Torvar Mirsky, who is currently fourth on the World Match Racing Tour leader board, and hoping to capture the world title next week in Malaysia.
In other matches he defeated fellow Kiwis Reuben Corbett and Will Tiller, one of his former crew, and another Perth skipper Peter Nicholas. Behind Robertson lies Frenchman Mathieu Richard, Ian Williams (GBR) and Torvar Mirsky all on a 3 – 2 score line. Making up the top half of the leader board is British triple-Olympic champion Ben Ainslie with three wins from five races.
